Marie Bergman is considered being one of the most personal and significant voices of Scandinavia. Her touching timbre and intimacy has made her well known by a large audience, and she operates within a wide range of styles. Her strong personality and dynamic voice radiates a timeless and energetic vibe, while she keeps growing artistically and absorbing new impulses.
In the sixties, Marie started out at smaller music clubs, such as Storken and Kaos in Stockholm. 1968-69 she sang in Putte Wickman’s band and 1969-73 she was one of the members in Family Four, which had several songs on the chart “Svensktoppen”. Her solo career took off in 1974 with her first album Mitt Ansikte, followed by a long series of albums.
Aside from her own compositions, Marie has recorded numerous jazz albums and explored the Swedish folklore treasure. She has won the Swedish try-outs for the Eurovision Song Contest three times (1970, 1971 and 1994) and also performed a number of times at Roskilde. Marie has probably toured Scandinavia more than any other Swedish artist. Marie has been awarded Dagens Nyheters Kasperpris 1982, Aftonbladets Rockbjörn 1983, Grammy for best lyricist 1984, Povel Ramels Karamellodiktstipendium 1993, Bellmanpriset 1999 and Evert Taubes Minnesstipendium 2003. 1994 she was appointed the epithet ”Every Swedish singer/songwriters first mother” by the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter.
By May 2009, Marie finally released another album with her own music: Det liv du får - recorded in her husband Lasse Englunds studio – an album they produced together.
