Rigmor Gustafsson

Rigmor Gustafsson is unique on the Swedish jazz scene, and her previous four albums all reached gold. An outstanding result only achieved by Rigmor of Värmland and no one else. When Rigmor sold gold with Close To You in 2005, it was the first gold album awarded to a Swedish female jazz singer since 1991. Back then Monica Zetterlund - also from Värmland -sold gold with her album Varsamt.

Rigmor herself wrote all the music and most of the lyrics for Alone With You (2007), which she also produced together with the legendary bass player Lars Danielsson. Alone With You resulted in a Grammy for best Swedish jazz album 2007.

In 2010, her repertoire reaches new dimensions as she was accompanied by Radio String Quartet Vienna, a string quartet that often collaborates with jazz musicians. Rigmor heard RSQV in Estonia a few years ago and was highly impressed by how they approached their instruments in a very percussive way. Rigmor was also impressed by their improvisational skills.

By fall 2008 Rigmor suggested a collaboration with RSQV, and in February 2010 the album Calling You was relased on the German label ACT. It contains both newly written material, songs from Rigmor’s previous albums as well as a few cover songs.

Rigmor will be touring with her Rigmor Gustafsson Quartet during 2011. In spring 2011, a compilation album to be released and in this context Rigmor Gustafsson will be touring with her trio.
